May I begin by asking, Who can really define "common knowledge?" What is common to one is not the other. On that note, please forgive the simplicity you will find in this blog. It is not meant to offend.
Today's blog is about how to use FLORAL TAPE.
I love working with floral tape but I didn't always...
Today, I am sharing my experiences with Floral Tape and hopefully leaving you with some very helpful hints.

Floral Tape comes in various colors but for the project of flower stems, may I suggest using the color green.
Floral Tape is excellent for covering wooden skewers, floral stems and other things.
When you first open the tape it doesn't feel very sticky on either side. I was confused by this at first but you don't have to be. You have the right tape.
WHERE TO FIND FLORAL TAPE: Floral Tape is available online, in Dollar stores and other discount stores. You can always find Floral Tape in craft stores like A.C.Moore, Michaels, and Joanne Fabrics. I have found local florists helpful in advising a good source to use for bulk ordering Floral Tape.
Something great to love about Floral Tape is that it covers well, looks great as a flower stem and the tape gets even stickier as you gently tug and wrap. (May I suggest you have some baby wipes near by or other moist cloth for your hands? After a while of wrapping, your hands get sticky.)

Everyone has there way of doing things. For me, I found it most comfortable to have a wrap hand and a roll hand. Here's what I mean.
The WRAP HAND: The hand you use to gently tug at the Floral Tape while you wrap working your way down the skewer or stem.
The ROLL HAND: The hand you use to continuously roll the stem or skewer, in your hand as you wrap.
Choose which hand you feel most comfortable to do the rolling or wrapping.
Open and unroll your Floral Tape about 2". (Keep tape on the roll so it is one continuous piece as you wrap until the stem is covered. )
Pick up your flower stem of choice (real or wooden) and lay it in your ROLL HAND.
Use the thumb of your ROLL HAND to hold the Floral Tape in place.
Place one end of the Floral Tape under the flower leaves and and with your WRAP HAND, wrap the floral tape around the stem several times.
Now you can release your hold and move your ROLL HAND down the stem as you wrap.
Wrap by gently tugging the Floral tape and aim downward. Tugging downward on the Floral tape helps prevent too much of the tape overlapping.
The tug on the Floral tape stretches it. The Floral tape should get stickier as you tug.
Wrap the stem to the end.
Once you are at the bottom of the stem, check for blank spots. Wrap to cover.
Cut the end of the tape.
Done!

FLORAL TAPE HINTS:
Have at least a placemat size of clean surface to work on so your tape has the room to unroll freely as you wrap. The Floral Tape should stay one piece until you have completely wrapped the stem or skewer.
I highly recommend keeping unused Floral Tape in a plastic baggy when not in use.

IDEAS FOR PAPER FLOWER ARRANGEMENT LEAFS
Some vine garland has sturdy and nicely shaped green leaves on them.
Disconnect the leaves from the vines. You want to look for the kind that pop on and off easily.
Put the pointed end of a wooden skewer in the leaf hole. Slowly and gently slide the center of the leaf, down the skewer. The plastic leaf hole often expands nicely. (Great way to recycle old flower garland too)

Hot glue gun the leaf hole all the way around the skewer one time.
Top the skewer with your paper or ribbon flower.
Wrap the skewer stem with Floral Tape. (See above instructions)
Make a dozen flowers or more and fill a vase for a lovely centerpiece.
